The First Annual BV Triathlon/Duathlon will be held Monday, June 13th, 2016. This optional event is for students
in grades 3, 4, and 5. The Triathlon is made up of three events: swimming, biking, and running, and the Duathlon
will be only biking and running.

The entire event will take place on the grounds of the Sheldon Community Center. At approximately 9:00 A.M.
students will walk to the Sheldon track. Both the Triathlon and Duathlon will begin with a 4 lap run (one mile)
around the track, followed by a 2 mile bike ride (two laps) on a path that loops around the complex around the
outside of the track and the soccer field next to Buena Vista. Participants will then park their bikes and Triathletes
will conclude by swimming 3 lengths of the indoor pool (75 yards total). After completing all events, students will
walk back to BV. Students may towel off after swimming, but will NOT be changing clothes until they return to
school.  Students who are waiting to start or have already finished will cheer for other participants as they finish at
the playground between the Sheldon tennis courts and swimming pool.

Parents are responsible for getting their student’s bike AND helmet to Sheldon Community Center the the morning of the event between 7:45-8:45 AM. Bikes can be taken home after the event or picked up after school (between 2:30 and 3:30) or between 5pm and 6pm on June 13th. Bikes will be kept in a secure area but we can not be responsible for any theft. More detailed information regarding bike drop off and pick up will come home closer to the event.

Bicycle riding will occur on paths that are a mix of sidewalks and trails made of bark and packed dirt/gravel. The
paths are not on the street, but all activities are potentially dangerous. Participants must adhere to the bicycle rules
and assume responsibility for their risk. There will be supervising adults along the bike route, but students must be

The pool at Sheldon is 25 yards long and has a deep end just over 6 feet. Lifeguards will be present, but students
MUST be able to handle deep water comfortably while swimming. NO flotation devices will be allowed.

If a student is not a capable swimmer, they must participate in the Duathlon.

The triathlon/duathlon is a continuous event with NO rest breaks. We will use a stagger start for this event and
participants will finish at various times.

The cost to participate is $5 and t-shirts can be purchased for an additional $10, which is due with all forms by
Friday, May 13th, 2016.

Entry forms are attached below, available from teachers, and will be attached to the next parent enews.

Forms need to be read carefully, filled out completely, and signed by the student and the parent/guardian in order to participate. No late forms will be accepted!
